Musing Review: Whitney – Private Parts (S1, Ep11)

2012′s first new episode of Whitney marked its move to Wednesday nights so it can be a lead in to Chelsea Handler’s new show.  The episode was only alright and not really a great follow on from the Christmas episode (which you can note that I did not review).  I even watched it twice because I thought I was too distracted the first time.  It didn’t get any funnier the second time.  So I’ll bottom line it.  It was not particularly funny, the story line was interesting (in concept) and again Alex was the funniest one on the show.

The episode was entitled “Private Parts” and focused around the concept of couples keeping things to themselves.  The trigger mechanism was the fact that Alex has a password on his phone and again that sent Whitney into one of her “routines.”  The show transitioned into parallel storylines about what couples keep from each other.

Neal and Lily moved in together for the first time.  Odd these days for an engaged couple, but it worked for the storyline.  They got to learn about each other very quickly.  Lily wore a mouth guard and the bathroom had walls that were a little too thing.  Uh oh, don’t go to the bathroom too loud.  Nothing like bathroom humor.

After Whitney was already skeptical of Alex’s locked cell phone she walks on him how can I say … having fun with himself.  She had never seen him do that before.  Shocking!  That ended up being the funniest storyline.  However, it was too much baseband humor for me, not smart at all.

There was another scene where Whitney’s secrets were uncovered while reading her diary when they were all at Neal and Lily’s new place.  There were some good one liners but nothing really spectacular.  At the end of the episode, everyone was alright again and of course Alex and Whitney had an “awww” moment.  Roxanne and Mark were pretty much unused in the episode.

You can probably tell from my tone that I wasn’t very enthused.  This is the second episode in a row that wasn’t exciting for me.  It wasn’t the best way to start out 2012.  I have had high hopes for the show and this episode didn’t help.  I can only hope it get’s better.  Thankfully there is Chris D’Elia to bring the comic relief.  Remember that the show moved to Wednesday night’s when you want to watch next week.

Watch Whitney Wednesday’s on NBC or catch up on NBC.com or Hulu.
